First Day on the Job

Well yesterday I finished up my orientation with a tour of the Canada Pavilions backstage workings and stopped off at costuming to get fitted for my lumberjack outfit and my Le Cellier uniform. Kind of a little kid thing but I've always loved dressing up so even if it is a bit silly I had a bit of a strut in my step as I walked to the bus this morning. Decked out in my red and black plaid shirt and my khaki shorts.

So my first day working at the popcorn/beer cart outside of the Canada Pavillion is underway. Now unfortunately it is summer here in Florida. That means it's HOT! And very humid. Not too mention i've had a head cold for the last week. So I'm a large man coming from a cold country to a hot one, who is only getting about %40 of his oxygen with each breath. Needless to say I was a sweaty mess in seconds. To which I apologize greatly to my co-workers and am very thankful that they were all courteous enough to pretend I had some dignity.

However, given enough time I did adjust and was able to relax and spend time interacting with the guests which I quickly realized just how much I missed. It reminds me of being on stage back in High School. The thrill of being and attraction all by yourself. I was so pleased when people asked about Canada or my hometown, or even had stories of their own about a visit to Guelph or their favourite Canadian beers. The highlight is of course the group of tourists who wanted to get their picture taken with a real live Canadian.

So yes i'm tired, sweaty, and my feet are blistered and sore (don't have the proper footwear yet so am wearing my dress shoes which are not made for extended standing) but I think Disney is going to be alot of fun.

Well you may have noticed there was no post yesterday... that's because I did nothing. Until me, Dan and Alana went and saw Inglorious Basterds that is otherwise not much to say.

Today however I had Traditions. Which involved getting up very early (6am is very very early for me) and catching the bus to Disney University where my first day of work commenced. And a long day it was. It was interesting to learn all about the Disney history and philosophy but their was simply too much of it. Being trapped in a meeting room talking about business plans from 8am until 4pm is more than my brain can take.

It didn't help that i'm also coming down with something. My throat has been sore all day and the sniffles and headache began early in the afternoon. I got myself some drugs so that hopefully tomorrows training won't be quite so harsh.

Throw In and taxes

So last night was my throw in. Canada's initiation for all the newbies. Had a great time. Everyone seemed a bit bittersweet though. One of the favorites here was leaving and ours was his last Throw in. Seemed like a great guy it's too bad I won't get to know him.

Met Craig at it. Turns out he's going to be training me on my first day wednesday. Looks like I'll be starting working at the podium in Le Cellier(hope that's spelt right).

Today was also the last day that My brother and my Mom are here in Orlando so I said goodbye too them. It's sad to see them go but we'll certainly keep in touch. And i'm sure a year will pass much quicker than I'd imagine.

Day 2

Had my first set of presentations today about our rules and regulations. Pretty straight forward stuff. They expect us to get along and be safe. Did some grocery shopping so I can eat at home. Still have barely seen any of my roomates. Frankly can't even remember their names... Oh well. We will get to know each other soon enough.

When we got our ID's we had the Disney look experts give us advice on keeping up our appearance. I was warned I may have to bring a razor to work with me to keep myself clean shaven. My stupid facial hair seems to grow 5X faster than anyone elses. Guess my body feels that if i'm going to dress like a lumberjack I should have a beard like one.

Throw in is tonight so I'm sure i'll have much more to report tommorrow.. till then!

My first day

Well I have arrived! I've moved in to my place and met my roommates. We arrived early today. signed in at 1:00 and moved all our stuff in. One of my roomates had the day off so we hung out and watch stranger than fiction and fight club. Went to Wal-mart and bought myself some sheets and a blanket. Haven't done any grocery shopping but we'll get to that in time. I start my orientation bright and early at 8:50. I'll write more tommorrow. Getting tired..
